The KKW addressed concerns that the DSM-34 was not close enough in handling characteristics and appearance to the military issue K98. 22 caliber training rifle made by several German companies during WWII as a development of a German program to encourage civilian marksmanship which started with the DSM-34. Our Assessment: This is a Kleinkaliber Wehrsportgewehr, roughly translated as a Small Caliber Military Sport Rifle, made by Mauser between 19. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good condition. The plate has scattered light wear and surface erosion. The LOP measures 13 1/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock has a chip loss on the left edge between the barrel band and nosecap, small losses around the barrel band spring on the right, nicks nd dings at the shelf for the barrel band on the stock and handguard, some scattered light compressions, scuffs and scratches, sling wear on the left below the receiver, and a couple of more notable compressions on the left of the grip toward the bottom and on the bottom-left of the stock just forward of the bottom metal. There is a pass-through sling cut with a post on the right of the buttstock and the barrel band has a sling ring on the left side. Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a nosecap, barrel band holding the handguard in front of the front sight, bolt disassembly discs on each side, and smooth steel buttplate. The stock shows some handling marks, but retains a very distinct cartouche.

Additional Information – 5 shot mag., grooved receiver for scope or sight, micrometer rear sight, ramp front sight, target stock, checkered pistol grip and forearm, swivels. Model/configuration – Model MS350B Patron bolt-action training rifle.22 LR cal., with 26-1/2 inch bbl., and blue finish. DWM, in turn contracted some rifles out to Mauser Oberndorf, which was also owned by Loewe at the time.

The rifles were produced by DWM, then owned by the Ludwig Loewe Company. The Mauser Modelo 1908 long rifle became the standard infantry rifle for the Brazilian Army in 1908. (I have not had the opportunity to shoot the rifle at longer ranges.). The Mauser is usable, shows minimal wear, has no rust and is accurate at 200 yards. The bolt and receiver have matching serial numbers and all parts of the rifle appear to be original. Serial Number 97700 on both the receiver and barrel PATRONE 22 LONG RIFLE (Written on barrel) D.R.P.D.R.G.M (Written on barrel).
